good luck with your purchase.... I bought a group of eggs from a breeder, (10 eggs, spent too much for my way of thinking) i have managed to keep 4 of 6 that actually hatched... hoping for both sexes, but not great odds if you ask me I have been keeping/breeding many many fish for quite a long time and have about 18 or 20 species of killies, amongst all the different fish i have. (about 100 tanks) so i felt like i could manage to hatch a few rice fish. anyhow.... i am breeding(successfully) orange, platiunum, black, and tricolors at present. I have not tried to bring in eggs from Japan, but think that may be next on my list, as the color types here in the states are not as plentiful... that all being said my best success has been in shallow vessels, with some moss, and making sure you have lots of live foods for them, after they have eaten up their egg sacks. rotifers, vinegar eels, micro worms,,, until they are able to eat live bbs.

glad to be part of this and the $$ support is very fair.... look forward to learning so much more about these fish... I have found (through regular fish clubs, and sales and such) that there are many medaka keepers in the US.... I am all for supporting possible zoom or streaming meetings where we can learn from medaka experts... because distance is a thing for trying to have actual in person meetings, this might be a way for everyone to get together albeit, on the computer..... just a thought... I realize because of covid, many larger aquarium societies, (my group here in richmond as well) hosted many monthly zoom meetings with actual speakers, or in some cases a social gettogether where fish friends could communicate in mass... I became a regular at many out of state meetings, and was really great to hear from speakers we may not have seen otherwise...

Hello All: I live in Richmond Va. and have several varieties of Medaka Orochi are my latest acquisition. also have a thriving colony of orange, and working on Platinum Silvers.. Really like this little fish and it blends well with some of my smaller species.. Plus they do well in tubs and containers outside here in the summer.... They have to be brought in by late September, (depending on temps) unless i add heating to their tubs. Next up are some of the tricolor varieties... Haven't purchased eggs yet so might try that route. good to see there is a resource out there now for this group of fish... I am not the best with facebook so looking forward to this venue.
